There is some degree of urgency in finding a living
donor as Rick's liver disease is progressing. The
potential donor's first step is to know his or her
blood type. In order to be a donor the blood
type must match Rick's which is Type O (positive or
negative will do). Next step is to call Janet at
Yale Transplant at 203-785-4134 and reference the
following... Rick's name : Richard Barker Rick's Date of birth : (12/24/1953) Janet will then connect you with the "transplant screening team". If the blood type is compatible with Rick's and the initial questions appear favorable, the donor will be evaluated by the Yale Transplant doctors who will obtain additional history, perform an examination and administer some non-evasive tests. All costs associated with the screening, testing, and surgery will be covered through Yale Transplant and the Barker's insurance.
